Mirrors

Here's a fun clip from Wally's travels to his birthplace, Belgium, from around 2007 while on tour with The Basics. Those were the days when he could ride a bike down the street and not be recognized as anything other than an ordinary chap. Not likely the case anymore.

Eat it up! Old School Gotye and Basics gold:
GotyeHQ @Gotye is playing @Summer_Sonic Festival 2012 in Japan! Dates are August 18, Tokyo & August 19, Osaka. Tickets here: http://t.co/nU6M1vDc Looks like the Wall-rus will be back out on the scene in late summer, way across the pond. Perhaps the first indications of that 'bigger tour' he has been envisioning? Will our man return to the states late this year or in 2013? You know this girl will be ear to the ground-you will know when I do!(squealing)

A friend and colleague introduced Gotye to his lil' guy and the inspiration was unavoidable:
Goes to show what great art can do-perhaps we have the next generation?

Oh Yeah, Wow! A Day In Gotye's Stop Motion Life

A little tidbit from 2008's "Like Drawing Blood" (unofficial video)
If you haven't had the chance to read Wally's self-written bio on his official website, take the time. He's a wonderfully odd duck. Seems like someone you'd want to have lunch and/or tea-time with: http://gotye.com/#about.html

One of the lyrics that stands out the most in "Somebody That I Used To Know" is "You can be addicted to a certain kind of sadness..." What have been some meaningful periods of sadness in your life?
I feel like one extended period was while I was making this record! I felt like there were a lot of days where I just really wondered if I might have depression and it made me question whether independently working on making an album was a valiant pursuit, something that I should be doing, or if I was good enough to do it.

A Guddun'

This one is fun, especially the daft American accent: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SFS5kI3mYc
This is my fan blog for Wally De Backer, AKA Gotye and drummer/vocals for The Basics. I will post interesting articles, photos, news and other items taken from the ether that may be of interest to other fans. As wally heads back to roo-land from a whirlwind US tour including stops at SNL and Coachella, myself and likely many of his US fans wave a sad goodbye...for now. Here are some lovely little pictorial nuggets for your enjoyment, sourced from Google image search including LA Times music blog, GQ, Gotye.com, etc. Enjoy!
